I found James McCollum's pension file at www.footnote.com under Virginia pension applications. It was indexed as McCullum/McCullom, but it is definitely James McCollum of Hardin County, Kentucky as of 1833. He served in Pennsylvania in a regiment of "Indian Spies" known popularly as Williamson's Spies. It was commanded by Colonel David Williamson. His company was commanded by Captain Ezekiel Rose and other officers include Lt Thomas Hill and Ensign Benjamin Whitsell. His period of service was 1781-1783. His application includes some colorful stories of his service. The file is premium content at www.footnote.com, so you'll have to pay for at least a month's subscription to see it.
