Hi, Andle!
I'm not sure if there is a connection or not. I am relatively certain that my Joseph was never in Georgia, but I am equally certain that he was in North Carolina, as at least one of his sons (James Brown McCollough, my husband's ancestor) was born there "by accident" in 1788. The family lived in Virginia at the time, but Joseph worked as a teamster briefly in Lexington, N. Carolina just across the state line.
In addition to James Brown, the known children of Joseph McCollough were: John (b. 1778), Margaret (b. 1780), Elinor (b. 1783), Elizabeth (b. 1785), William (b. 1791), David (b. 1794), Sarah (b. 1797), Mariah (b. 1799), Polly Mary (b. 1803), and Johnson (b. 1806).
So it doesn't appear as if your Jacob was a part of this family group, but he could be a collateral relative. If I ever get past this block and have something relevant to report, I'll let you know.
Happy Hunting!
Margaret
