The family of David Crockett McCallister (spelled McColister in 1860) does appear on the 1860 census. This family had moved to Coryell County, Texas by 1860, and appears on p. 266b, Raneys Creek Beat No. 3 of that county. It is known that Sarah Ellen (Eaton) McCallister (wife of David) came to Texas from Illinois with her parents as part of a group led by Elder John Parker. This group established Fort Parker near present-day Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas. My information is that Sarah's parents were Richard Eaton and Mary Robertson. Sarah lived until 1894, and appears as head of her own house in Coryell County in 1870, and in Coleman County in 1880. I am told that both she and David are buried in the Coffey Cemetery near Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas.

This is not my direct line. I am a descendant of David McCallister's brother, Michael D. "Mike" McCallister (family 165 in the earlier message).

Happy Hunting.
