MacColl DNA

My son recently got the results to the first part of his Y-DNA testing at Family Tree DNA. The results for the first 12 markers show only one 12/12 match under the Clan Donald surname study and that is a MacColl. None of the 12/12 matches in the Family Tree database had a variant of the McDonald name.

I was quite surprised at this since the family surname is McDonald. The McDonalds emigrated from Ireland to Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland in the late 1850's. So, I was expecting to find matches in Ireland. Matches 11/12 were found with the McDonald surname variants.

I can't contact this person because they gave no contact information. Just wondering why MacColl was the only exact match. I can share the results in any one is interested.

Barbara McDonald

Has anyone in this forum had their Y-DNA tested?
