while searching the East Kilbride web site I found the following: 1851 census 2% sample z/11/19 Cadger Hill J/Dougald/McColl/head/Mar 25/AGL.Laborer/ARL/Lismore/ j/Margaret/McColl/wife/Mar 22/LKS/E Kilbride I don't know what the dates mean or ARL or LKS - probably place name abbreviations. East Kilbride is in Lanarkshire, Scotland near Glasgow. other information: East Kilbride is one of the oldest villages in Scotland. Celtic origins - probably for nun from Ireland who founded convent there - named after St. Bride or Bridget or Brigit. www.eastkilbride.org/uk/leisure/genealogy/1851-census.htm the town went from 2,400 to about 90,000 today - Scotland's 6th largest town - Hope this helps someone researching the McColls in this area. My McColls were from Glasgow and probably not from East Kilbride. There were two Kilbride and so names East and West were addd to distinguish between them. Notify Administrator about this message?
