Here's something you may have already seen: John McColgan and Thomas McColgan are listed in the Green County Tax List
of April 19, 1813:
Thomas is shown over 21, without land. The only possible Hayes I could see in this list is a Robert Hay.
In the 1810 Census of Green County:
John McColgan is listed with a male age 16-25 in his household (doubtless his son Thomas). There is a Robert Hays in this 1810 Census. He is shown as over age 45; females, 1 age 10-16; 2 16-25; 1 45+; one person not taxed, and one slave.
The female age 10-16 would fit the age range of Sarah Hayes wouldn't she?
Anyway, it's something to consider if you haven't already.
John McColgin/McColgan is listed not only in the 1810 and 1813 records from Green County but the 1800 Tax List and 1830 US Census as well.
Also listed in Nelson County Tithables in 1791. I think, although John McColgan was named an Executor of James Handley's Will in Washington County in 1817 and took out a Guardian's Bond there in 1824, it's more likely John McColgan lived in Green County from it's formation to his death in 1838.
