Hi Marie, From the 1930 censu image, it said he was married. He may have left a wife back in Ireland. He also may have applied or became naturalized. It's not clear on that image if he did. Would suggest you check with NARA to see if there are naturalization papers. You can google for that information. Just found this - Not sure it's your James: Boston Passenger Lists, 1820-1943 about James McColgan Name: James McColgan Arrival Date: 26 Mar 1923 Age: 21 Years Estimated Birth Year: abt 1902 Gender: Male Ethnic Background: Irish Port of Departure: Londonderry, Ireland Ship Name: Cameronia Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts Friend's Name: Eugene Doherty Last Residence: Ireland Birthplace: Clonmany, Ireland Microfilm Roll Number: 276 He did not embark on this ship. His father's name was James McColgan, Lagahurry, Isle of Doagh, Clonmany I am NOT sure this is your James, but from the later voyage, it could well be him. He was going to travel with Hugh Doherty who also did not sail. I found a Hugh Doherty, carpenter, who came to the US in 1927 going to Boston, but am not sure it is the right Hugh. I think you should check 1911 Irish census records. Unfortunately the Donegal 1911 Irish census images are not online yet. Only Dublin. Regards, Sue Nass Notify Administrator about this message?
