Nathaniel McClurg/Nottoway VA 1798

In looking at Nottoway tax records for my James McClurg (in Nottoway tax records in 1791-1796 when he probably moved in with his father-in-law, Samuel Morgan), I stumbled across Nathaniel McClurg in 1798. He paid the poll for one white male and for one horse. This was the only year (read from 1789 to 1815)I found Nathaniel. This is almost certainly the Nathaniel who married Polly Redd in neighboring Prince Edward Co. in 1800, and it would be logical to suspect the two McClurgs were brothers. James was born before 1765--but probably not much before. That would put him in his 30s when he was in Nottoway. Nathaniel may have been just a couple of years younger. Interesting that both men named daughters Harriet.

A later family bio (see Wm. McClurg on James below) says James was born in Scotland and came to this country before the Rev. though that time frame would mean he probably came with parents--could just as easily have come in the 1780s.

Are there any male McClurgs of this line who would be willing to do DNA? I know there are descendants of James' son William who moved to Carroll Co. MS. Please get in touch!
