THOMAS LEROY MCVAY was born in Knox County, Ohio, Oct. 20th, l848. He was the son of WM. and SARAH MCVAY and moved to this county with his parents at 9 years of age.
He was united in marriage to MATILDA PHYLINE MOYER, Aug. l6th, l874, and who preceded him in death, Feb. 25th, l902. to this union were born ten children, B.B. MCVAY, Platt, South Dakota; GEO. LEWIS, JOHN CLYDE, Garden Grove, Iowa; HORTENSE MCVAY, of Weldon; MRS. CLYDE MCCLURG, Riverdale, California; MRS. J.O. WEBB, Kansas City, Mo.; THOMAS LEROY, MRS. CLYDE GARTON, Weldon; MRS. COLLIE PARKER, Memphis, Mo.; and LEONARD O. MCVAY, of Grand River, all of whom survive him except GEO. LEWIS and THOMAS LEROY.
He was made a Master Mason of Jacinth Lodge, No. 443 Weldon, Iowa, on Dec. 6th, l889.
He was stricken with paralysis about three years ago from which he never recovered. Brother MCVAY was a loving husband and kind father, always ready to work for the good of the community. He is also survived by one brother, LEONARD S. MCVAY, of New Virginia, Iowa; the only remaining member of a family of ten children.
All was done for him that loving hands and tender care could do without avail, and he quietly passed away March 3, l925, being at the time of his death, 76 years, 4 months and l2 days of age.
