James McClurg, John Henderson's father, died early (when John was but 4 yrs old)& his widow never remarried.Apparently James was on a flat boat, taking a load of meat to New Orleans, & on the trip down the Mississippi River, he contracted yellow fever and died.Presumably he was buried on the banks of the river. In addition to John Henderson McClurg, he left a daughter,Elizabeth, who married Ezekiel Smith in Davis Co, IA.
