Connecting Kentucky to Missouri Family
Before my father died he did a lot of research into the McClure family name. He had found traces of an Andrew McClure who migrated from Donegal, Ireland in 1648. From what I remember he had 6 or 8 sons when he came to what was then Virginia colony.
Over the period of time they moved west through Tennessee and Kentucky. My father was able to back trace the my grandfather Theodore and my great grandfather, John Wesley McClure (I think) to 1850 in Missouri. The McClure name prior to that seems reasonably documented in Kentucky and the "Virginia Colony" area, however he was never able to tie the Kentucky lineage to the Missouri lineage directly.
At some point he found something that indicated there is a possibility the my branch of the family tree may actually be descendents of the Allway - Alway - Alloway family and that due to a family feud an Allway (etc) son fought with his Allway father in Kentucky and took the name McClure from his grandmother when he moved to northern Missouri. circa 1850 ish.
Has anyone else came across this combination in their research? I do know that the Allway family (several different spellings)were married with the McClure family in "Virginia colony" but that single reference was all I've seen.
Any info would be appreciated, thank you in advance.
