North Carolina Land Grants in Tennessee 1778-1791432. William McClure
There are county records showing that William lived in Virginia for awhile, and probably after that in North Carolina. We know that William is listed as an early settler to the area of Tennessee that was to become Marshall County.
Marshall County is located in Middle Tennessee, one of the state's three"Grand Divisions."
Formed in 1836 from Maury, Lincoln, and Bedford counties. In 1870, a part of Giles County was also added.Marshall County was named in honor of John Marshall, chief justice. The southern part of the county consists of fertile valleys and hills; the northern part is mostly level. It is drained by the Duck River. The county seat is Lewisburg, named for Meriwether Lewis.
In the history of Marshall County, TN it states that the first County Court as organized on October 3, 1836 in the home of Abner Houston.
William McClure is listed as one of the Justices of the Peace, and was also named Chairman.Abner Houston deeded 50 acres to the county for the town site that became Lewisburg, TN on December 16, 1837.
The only child I am positive of for William & "Nellie" was our William D. McClure, born Sept 20, 1830- died Nov 29, 1893.He married Mary Orlena Pillow Apr 8, 1852.Both are buried in Beechwood Cemetery, Cornersville, TN.
