Found another good book, written by (none other then) a Tony Mack MCCLURE, Ph.D. It's called Cherokee Proud 2nd Edition". A gude for Tracing and Honoring your Cherokee Ancestors. I found it a few weeks ago over at http://www.amazon.com/http://www.amazon.com/ I only paid about 7 bucks for it brand new. You might want to check it out. I've yet to have a chance to start reading it but here the MCCLURES mentioned in the Index:
MCCLURE
Aulie Floyd
David William
James
James M.
John
Kate
katie
Katy
Katy Downing Tehee
Mary
Rebecca
Robet L.
Robin
Susan
I really was hoping to see a Jesse in there... but there is a section devoted to a few Chief's that were under the WHITE name, hummm, interesting. This book even has alot of scanned images from Dawes Roll Nat'l Archives! Now I remember something about my lineage (MCCLURE)'s on the census records; I remember reading that 2 brothers were not accounted for nor accepted on the Dawes Roll in western NC because they were visiting out in California at the time, this was a few years back and it's mentioned in this book and has the scanned image of the papers.
NOTE: Entry by Siler that James MCCLURE age 24 and his brother John were rejected on the this roll because they were out of state in CA when the roll was taken (says they went to check out the gold rush); remarks on the previous page (noted by writer) that beside Rebecca MCCLURE indicates she is James' wife. He goes on to write, "As will be seen later, James MCCLURE was eventually noted in the Cherokee Nation West Oklahoma records, but not John). He mentions Georgia too. I know for a fact that my MCCLURES hiphopped around from East TN, western NC and northern GA.
