Scott, Smiley, Mcclure, Gaughan
Between Abt 1900-1920 my greatgrandparents Samuel Smiley and Mabel Helen Gaughan Smiley lived in/around Bisbee Arizona. Samuel worked as a guard on the ore wagons after being discharged from the Calvary. There were other relatives living in Bisbee. One was Aunt Clara. Clara's married name was Leisman(Otto Leisman husband) from whom she was divorced and then she remarried to a Dave Boys. In various letters she mentions Uncle Jack(this may be the same Jack that was in the State of Washington and sent postcards), Lizzie, Grampa,Lena, May (who Married E.P. Wood of Los Angeles,Cal & Living in Tulare California in 1920)
I would like to find out what connection Aunt Clara was, Scott?, Smiley?, Gaughan?, McClure?. I was given to understand that Aunt Clara was related to Mabel Helen Gaughan. Mabels parents were William Gaughan and Josephine McClure.
Mabel Gaughan Smiley died abt. 1923 I beleive near Bisbee. She died from complications of child birth and possible cancer. The younger of her children Wanda, Willis, and Winifred were placed in a orphanage for a short period of time as Samuel couldn't care for them. Apparently after he settled in Akron Ohio he sent for them and they lived in Ohio.
Samuel & Mabel Gaughan Smileys daughter Ruth Smiley , my grandmother, was born in 1898 and lived near Bisbee from the time she was three. In 1914 she married Harry Boggs Scott in Bisbee,Arizona.(I obtained a copy of the marriage license) Harry was from Denver/Leadville Colorado and was in Arizona working at the mines. I guess the miners went from mine to mine. I'm pretty sure they left the area due to the labor disputes that were going on in Arizona about that time. They ended up in PA/Oh/ and stayed in NY where they both died.
Harrys parents were Ira C. Scott and Mary Boggs Scott. They also were in Bisbee at some point in the same time frame. Ira may have died in Bisbee or maybe there was an obit in the paper regarding him abt. 1920-1921.
I'm hoping someone has information on these familys and can help me connect them. Apparently alot of the records were destroyed in a fire.
Thanks for any help.
