Wm. S. McClung 1800 son of George Henry McClung
I am not related, just passing along information.I have a magazine with an article written by Wm. S. McClung. The magazine is The Good Old Days and the issue is Feb. 1978 and he was born in 1880 (this would make him 98 years old)
What is so touching about this article is his last three sentences.
" I forgot to tell you I served three years in the Iowa National Guard during World War I, 1916-17-18, Company "K", 140th Infantry.
I love America and would be glad to offer what service I can if the United States was ever attacked.
God bless every person who reads this story."
William S. McClung was born in Woodhull, Illinois on September 12, 1880.His father is George Henry McClung born in Lancaster, PA in 1844.George died in Cambridge, Illinois, in 1917, at the age of 73.His mother (no name mentioned) was born in Ohio in 1844.She died in Streator, Illinois, in 1920, at the age of 76.They had 9 children, six girls and three boys (no names mentioned)William states that he is the last surviving child.
His father, George, was a Union soldier, wounded in the battle of Fort Henry. His mother was a nurse at the same place.

William married a Texas born girl (no name mentioned). They were married on Sept. 11, 1902 the day before his birthday.William and his wife had 3 girls and 4 boys. At the time the article was written, all the children had followed their mother in death except for Kathryn, Wilma and Robert. Three of his sons served in World War II.
