I'm a new resident of Buena Vista, VA. Our property once part of Elisha Paxton's Plantaion on North(now Maury)River. This land is now part of Maury Glen, B.V.'s town park. Elisha's house is presently being restored.Elisha bought property in 1828 from William Porter and wife Esther. No mention made of previous deed, so I am checking all deeds where a William Porter is listed as grantee. On Oct. 3, 1786 a William Porter(there are 3 generations of William) bought land from William McClung and wife. Does anyone know this William? Where did McClungs own land? I do know that one group od McClungs owned land near Fairfield(about 10-12 miles north of Buena Vista on route 11. Where exactly was their property? Early records are hard to read as borders are given as "double Dogwood, fallen Oak, river, stone pile etc. Thanks in advance for any information identifying this William and location of his property.
