Among the various spellings of the family name, might there be a Cluggish? That's my wife's family, and I have followed it to Northern Ireland, where William Richard Cluggish was born in Belfast in 1799, the earliest link I have. After his death in 1847, his family emigrated to America, settling mostly in the midwest. One was a Robert B Cluggish, born 1830. Family lore says the family roots are in Scotland, with the Cluggish name probably a corruption of something else. Any of this ring any bells?
