Try checking France. When I started my research back some thirty years ago, Scotland and Ireland where the main source of the McCloy name. However, It was not always spelled McCloy in some of the history books. Do a research of surnames and McCloy some how came out of Lewis and they belonged to the Stuart the Blue clan in the highlands. Back before that, around Brittany, France (celt territory), the McCloy name appears. It has been spelled many different ways so that is why we have such a hard time tracing them. Isn't history wonderful.
