Hmmmn...I don't know of a connection of the Cardinal and Edwin Booth....just one of my g-g grandfather JJ McCloskey and Edwin Booth. Edwin Booth and JJ McCloskey worked in California together during the period of the Gold Rush. JJ wrote his memoirs that stayed within our family. They were never officially "published" but my father dropped them off at a few libraries including the NY Public library.

So....I don't know of any specific connection between the Cardinal and the Booth family all I know that according to Felix's (JJ's brother) obituary they were cousins of the Cardinal. Both Felix and JJ were well known in their day...and there are a series of editorial articles that Felix wrote to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle (available online) about the Catholic religion. I don't know if the Cardinal and JJ and Felix actually knew each other but it's possible.
