Lawrence C. "Mac" McCloskey, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after a short illness. His wife of nearly 50 years is the former Helen Zvikas.
Born Jan. 11, 1929, in Lake Ariel, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Doris Chapman McCloskey. He was a 1946 graduate of Lake Consolidated High School and a 1950 graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. He spent most of his career as a tugboat engineer for McAllister Towing, New York City, for whom he worked 30 years before retiring. Prior to his retirement, he traveled to many parts of the world while serving as an engineer aboard several steamships, including the S.S. United States.
Also surviving are two sons, Lawrence Jr. and wife, Teri, Manheim; and Robert and wife, Ruth, Peckville; three grandsons, Robert, Nicholas and Matthew; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
