McCleskey Day at Ranger, TX 16 Oct 1999
HELP PROMOTE OUR COLORFUL HERITAGE Construction for the McCleskey No.I Derrick is scheduled to start on Monday September 13th. The reconstructed derrick, with added strengths, will go up the full 84 feet and will be lighted. October 16th is the date set for the 1999 "Remember McCleskey Day" and Annual Fall Fund-Raiser of the Ranger Historical Preservation Society.
This year's fund-raiser will consist of a BIG TEXAS Barbeque, and "Ground-Breaking Ceremony" for the Society's 38 acre Working, Living, History with interpreters in costume. When completed, travelers and tourists, as well as area residents, will be able to come and learn all about Eastland County's history, from its 1858 beginning and including all parts of the county.The history portrayal will be about Eastland County, by Eastland Countians.Newspaper owner, H. V. O'Brien in his feature story about the project - a "mixture" of that seen at "Old Williamsburg Virginia" and the "Fort Griffin Fandangle" - appropriately called it an "Historical Village".

The anticipated schedule: Ground-Breaking, 11:00 A.M.; Barbecue on the grounds following ground-breaking ceremony.
