1755 James McCleskey
"We know from his obituary that James McCleskey, the Revolutionary War soldier, was Presbyterian. As I understand it that surely means that he was Scots-Irish. Scots-Irish is strictly an American term. It refers to those people of Scottish origin who were transplanted to Ireland and then came to America. However, history tells us that most Scots were Irish in the beginning" - Posted by Margaret McCleskey on November 17, 2000, to genealogy.com McCleskey message board.
My questions are:(1) What is the full text of that obituary? (2) Does anyone have the information regarding this man's Revolutionary War record.I have a Gurganus Revolutionary War ancestor and I am trying to deterimine whether they were in the same company, or whatever connections that they may have that pertain to the Revolutionary War.All I know is that this man was in the Revolutionary War and no more.ANY information would be most appreciated.Thank you all in advance for your assistance.
