Origin of McClement name

I have found infomation on the origin of the McClement name. The name comes from Scotland, the McClements/McClymonts/Clement were a Sept of the Lamont Clan, one of oldest dating back to 1200. Septs were Clan members who were related thru the chieftans wife's or they could be unrelateds who pledged themselves to the cheiftan.

They also said to watch out as MAC means son of ex Clement Bruce son John takes the name John McClements.

Also I have researched the name Clements. Apparently the followers of St Clements also took his name.

You can also do a search in the genealogy link for the Irish Times Newspaper, complete a surname search and it tells you the distribution of the name by each of the name variants for all of Ireleand, the click on one of the varientants and it gives you numbers by county.

Here is the Lamont Clan site:http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Heritage/FSCNS/Scots_NS/Clans/Lamont.html

Don't expect much, the site is fairly new.
