Hi Chris,
I will get back to you about Helen Mason McClymont- I have some scans which I will check.
I also have been in contact with Alex, and have been emailing a couple of others who have information about this family.
I have just discovered that George McClymont actually signed his name McClement- which is yet another twist. George was literate at least to the extent of signing his own name, and has signed it this way in a couple of records. So despite my family always knowing the name as McClymont and also the other descendants of George and Annie- the original spelling was McClement.
I'm sure this is just a dialect/accent thing- but it sure is confusing!
I don't know exactly when George changed his name from Maclemon to McClement, but it may have been that George just had a stronger accent than the other family members and that the clerk wrote the name down wrong. However, since we all seem to know the name as McClymont, I would suggest that George really did change his name- for what reason is unknown at this stage. Perhaps we can all share our bits of knowledge and come up with the answer!
As long as the info fits in with the primary sources such as parish records, etc, I'm happy with that.
