I too am looking for a James McClelland / McLelland living in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina who it is believe died and left minor children. He had connections to extended families in Chester and Fairfield Counties in South Carolina at that time.
If anyone has additional information about this line, I would be most appreciative to hear.
James McClelland's son, my gg grandfather, James Burr McLelland, born in Columbia, SC, married Ann Harrison there, had his first child there, and moved to Winston County, Mississippi and was there in 1840 and 1850, before moving to neighboring Noxubee County, Mississippi by 1860.After that, the family moved to Brazos County, Texas where they remained and were buried in the Bryan City Cemetery in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas.
Children of James Burr McLelland and his wife Eliza Gibson Head, were:
George D McLelland, b. SC 1833, married M A Youngblood
Theordore R McLelland, b. 1836, MS, never married
Sue Ann McLelland, b. 1840, MS, never married
Robert Clayton McLelland, b. 1840 MS (twin of James H)
James H McLelland b. 1840 (twin of Robert), married, unkonwn wife.
Franklin Moses McLelland, b. 1844, my great grandfather, married Nancy "Nannie" Catherine Phillips
Allister G McLelland, b. 1847, never married
Marcia O McLelland, b. 1848, m. Francis Foster Hooper after sister Eliza died.
Eliza M McLelland, b 1849, m. Francis Foster Hooper 1st.
Sarah Jane "Sallie" McLelland, b 1853, married Wesley V Waldrop, Sr.
William McLelland, b. 1854 - died young
This family listed above was related to the Burr Harrison family, with both James Burr McLelland's mother Ann Harrison and his wife, Eliza Gibson Head's mother being Ann's sister - Susannah Gibson Harrison both daughters of Burr Harrison and Elizabeth Dargan.Susannah Gibson Harrison married William Woodward Head, Sr., who lived in Chester District, South Carolina between 1800 and 1820 before moving on to Winston/Choctaw County, Mississippi, where he and his are buried.
I have put together quite a few of the connections between families, but I can NOT find or verify James Burr McLelland's father, other than I believe he was a Methodist Minister in Columbia, South Carolina before dying in 1817 leaving several young children.Ann Harrison, Rev. James McClelland's wife died in 1816, after giving birth to their youngest child, George (GKD) McLelland.
The name could have easily been spelled McClelland during these early years, but was subsequently listed as "McLelland" on all subsequent records.
Thanks in advance!
