Hi --
I think the Fergus McClelland buried in Rocky Springs cemetery is probably my gr.gr.gr.gr.uncle. The history of Hancock Co., Ohio records that several children of Robert and Rebecca McClelland migrated to Eagle Township from Beaver Co. Pa. in 1836, and Robert and Rebecca followed in 1837. There's a Fergus listed among his children, but I never found hide nor hair of him in the Hancock Co. records. When I discovered a Fergus McClelland in the census records for Big Beaver Twp., I guessed that must be he, and he must have stayed behind on the family farm. His birthyear of ca. 1803 would make him the oldest of the children. The name "Fergus"was given to a couple of Hancock Co. descendants: for instance Fergus McClelland (1838-1863) who died at the battle of Murfreesboro. I've often wondered if they were given that name merely to honor their uncle, or if it indicates that we have Fergus ancestry. I know the Washington Co. history records that Thomas McClelland (b.1757) married Mary Fergus, but there's nothing obvious in the account to link them to my family.
