Neil/Hugh McLeary, Ireland

My great great grandfather was Hugh McLeary who was born about 1811-1816 in Ireland, according to his death certificate and census records. He was a fisherman and drowned in the river Clyde in Scotland Aug 25, 1871(age 60). The certificate lists his father as Neil McLeary a farmer, deceased and mother's name unknown. Hugh was married to Ann Hunter and the only child I know of from this marriage was Hugh b~1842-45,(my great grandfather) in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland. I can't find a marriage registration for Hugh & Ann so I am assuming they married in Ireland. There are no McLeary's in the 1841 census of Port Glasgow so my assumption is that they came over early in the famine years for work. My grandfather was George McLeary and my father Robert McLeary. If anyone has any ideas as to where to look for Irish records to pinpoint which county they might be from I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
