I don't have my McCleary line very far back and I am stumped. Just wondered if you might be able to point me in the right direction. Since you apparently have done a lot of research on the McCleary family, perhaps you have come across mine.

My gg grandfather, William Edmond McCLEARY was born, according to his obit, in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1863. He is found in 1870 census, Douglas Co., MO with family of Potter as age 11, which would make his birth year 1859, which I believe to be more correct. Family story from his granddaughter says that his father (she thinks also named William) was killed during the Civil War, not from battle, but from being thrown by his horse and hitting a tree. The rest of the story says that the Mother re-married and the step-father kicked Edmond out of the house, when he was 7 years old. She said there were at least, two sisters of Edmond's, who stayed with the mother and the step-father. She thought Edmond's mother's name was Martha Baskett and said she was 1/2 Indian. {I haven't found any proof yet to make the story ring true except for the fact that I did not find him in the cenus with his own family.}

Edmond married 1. Susanna MILLER in 1878 in Ozark Co., MO, (I have a copy of the marriage license and it spells the last name McClery),and they had 4 children: Crissie, b. 1880, Samuel b. 1882, Sarah b. 1885, and William who went by the name of Mack, b. 1892. I haven't found Edmond and Susanna in 1880 census, but her parents are in Ozark Co., MO in 1880. I have a family letter that says Susanna died when the children were young, but I haven't been able to find a record of her death or cemetery. It would seem she had to have died sometime between 1892 and 1898. Edmond married 2. Rebekah Viola GRAHAM abt 1898, and they had 7 children; James Andrew, Amon Otis, Chester Earnest, Mary Ella, Russell Ely, Kathryn Augusta, and Letha May. In 1900 census, Edmond is in Ozark Co., MO with his 2nd wife.

Edmond died in 1948 in Sparks, Lincoln Co., OK. Now, I've said all that to say that I'm looking for 1.proof of Edmond's father's death in the Civil War, 2. the name of the step-father, and 3. Susanna's death information. If anyone out there is related to, or knows of this family, I'd be glad to correspond with them, and share info.

Thank you,
