William is my gggg grandfather. We have proven the lineage from Wm to present. Wm was b. 06-22-1788 and d. 09-29-1838 in York Co. PA. He m. Martha Ewing on 12-26-1809 by Rev. Daniel D. Hall of the Harford Co Methodist Circuit Riders. That circuit serviced northern MD and into southern PA. Most of the other McClearys at the time were affiliated with the Presbyterian ministries at Slate Ridge, Chanceford or Guinston. Martha's father was James Ewing who entered the Methodist ministry in 1809 and d. 09-22-1861 in Juniata Co. PA.
Wm & Martha had 10 children. Abraham (b.1810/d.10-18-1898) m. Sabina Watson. Jane W. (b.06-11-1812/d.04-13-1888) m.Edward Boyd. Issac (my ggg grandfather b.03-28 or 30-1813/d.08-20-1893) m. Susan Pitts. Henry (b.11-28-1813 or 14/d.02-16-1901) m. (1) Mary Ann Bailey & (2) Mary Jane McGurk. Sarah Ann (b.05-15-1816?/d.12-23-1877) m. John Scott. James (b.?/d.1887?) was m. twice (1)? (2) @ age 41 to Sarah Catherine Horn by Rev Niles. His residence was listed as Galva, Ida Co. Iowa. Martha (b.?/d.?) m. Henry Stiles (Stiltz). Mary Anne or Ann (b.?/d.?) m. William Thompson. William H (b.1823/d.?) m. (1) Martha & (2) Mary. He died in Iowa?. John (b.06-15-1826/d.02-15-1916) m. Julia F. Laird on 02-09-1851 or 52.
We have substantial evidence of 3 or 4 McCleary/McClearie families living within a few miles of each other in southern York Co at the time of our William's birth. PA Land Grants were issued to John (1762), Andrew (1771) and Alexander/Andrew (1787). All of those properties were settled before applying for the Warrant. There was also a William with land and numerous inhabitants listed in the 1783 tax records.
Can anyone help us prove our William's parentage?
