The Parsons Cemetery is located one-fourth mile north of Highway 181 in an area well-settled before the Civil War. Early land owners, David and Elizabeth Parsons, set aside land for the cemetery in the 1870s. At the time of the cemetery survey, there were 32 fieldstones, one blank marker, and 101 inscribed tombstones. The grounds are fenced. The grounds were exempted in 1923 when J. Decker and his wife, M.E. Parsons, deeded 1.5 acres for a public cemetery .The earliest date inscribed on a tombstone is 1871. Among the other stones is one which may bear the earliest birth date of any other stone in the county. This stone marks the grave of Isah Collins, 1788-1885. Many of the Ballinger tombstones were handmade by Frances (Ballinger) Bartley, daughter of Tom Ballinger and Margaret Parsons.
