Mcclay Family Genealogy Forum
My McClays are from the Ulster, Tyrone area and Presybyterian. My gggrandfather is William McClay born 1800 or 1810 (depending on which US census one reads.) He was married to "Fanny" Sarah Crawford, also born in Ireland about 1808 (again the census). They emigrated about 1833 to New York Harbor and settled in Western Pennsylvania, Sugar Creek Township, Armstrong County amidst a lot of Crawfords. I don't know if or how the other Crawfords are related. We'd like to.
William and Fanny's oldest son, James, married Anna Maria Stewart of his neighborhood. About 1869 James and family relocated to Camp Creek, Pike County, Ohio. About 1870 his brother,Charles and family, joined James in Pike County where they stayed a few years then returned to Armstrong County PA. Both Charles and James served in the Civil War and served time at Andersonville Prison per their war records. I am descended from Charles to Ida McClay Myers to Charles Myers to Marion Myers to me.
While the McClays were in Ohio they became connected to the Starr family in Ohio and to one John R Myers. We are looking for information on the roots of William McClay and Fanny Crawford as well as John R Myers. We have other informaion on the descendency of the families. William and Fanny's information comes from death certificates, census reports and the personal knowledge of their grand daughter, now deceased. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I will share what I have you don't already have since most of mine is already on ancestry.com. Thanks.
