Mordecai Manuel McClave (1825-1899)was my great grandfather.He left Palmyra, NY , about 1855 to work in Allegan, Michigan,returned to Palmyra in 1857, moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1859.Served in the 9th Michigan Calvary from1863-1865.I understand that he took part in Sherman's march through Georgia.Married a widow, Marie A. Price Dustin, Dec. 6, 1869 in Cleveland , Ohio,movedto Benton Harbor, Michigan.My grandfather, Cory E McClave (1870-1937)had a small fruit farm and was a postman in Benton Harbor.Married Mary Pearl Finch (1900?).Three children, Maurita McClave (1901-1980),Jean McClave (1908-199?), Julian.Maurita McClave was one of two women graduates in agriculture at Michigan Agricultural College in 1925. Married Charles C. Bishop (1895-1978). Nine children, eight still living. Grandchildren and great granchildren too numerous to count (probably not, but I couldn't give you a list of them all). Maurita McClave Bishop had nine children: Jordan (Ontario), Barbara (Michigan), Janet (Michigan), Linda (dec. El Paso, Tx), Richard (Illinois), Charlotte (North Carolina), Margaret (Michigan), Elizabeth (Georgia), Kathleen (Virginia).
