Are you sure he was born in Scotland? Because I have other sources that say John MCCLATCHY was born 1725 in County Down, Northern Ireland.

He emigrated to Rowan Co, NC, where in 1758 he registered a cattle brand 'HM', leading me to suspect that his middle name is 'Hamilton'--just as it is for so many of his offspring!
