McClaskey vs. McClatchey

Due care needs to be exercised in the analysis of the name McClaskey/McCloskey/McCluskey/etc. It is true that the name McClatchey is sometimes erroneously rendered as one of these, but that is probably because the name McCloskey is far more common than the name McClatchey.

Or to put it another way, McCloskey and McClatchey are not the same families; though occassionally the name McClatchey is mispelled as such. Since the name McCloskey is so common it shows up in a lot of places that have nothing to do with McClatcheys. Nonetheless, there is sometimes reason to connect McClatcheys to the same area where McCloskeys were, which then requires very careful analysis to sort them out.

I will post my list of name variations.

Beau
