Jas. McCLANAHAN sells to Thos. BURTON ...
Posted by: Gerre Byrd (ID *****5416) Date: October 30, 2008 at 14:03:46
  of 1865

...151A on Raburns Creek of Laurens Co., SC., part of 220A originally conveyed to John McCLANAHAN in 1774, then to his son & heir, James McCLANAHAN. Dated 1799. Recorded 1801.

Witnessed by John COCHRAN, Wm. BURTON, & J. A. ELMORE, J.P.

From Early Records of Laurens Co., SC.

Thomas BURTON migrated to Laurens Co. abt 1794 from Charlotte Co., VA, the son of James & Judith Payne BURTON. Thomas died in 1802 and left a Will, naming Robert, Benjamin, & Samuel, Judah & Anna. It's thought he had older children not named, possibly Thomas of Laurens who d: 1830, and others.

It's very difficult to place the Laurens Co., SC BURTONS into their respective families, but we are working on it. This family has apparently left no family histories or bible records for posterity. It's going to take someone with a different surname who has discovered a connection to the BURTON line in this area. Please share what you know.

Thank you for any considerations.

Gerre Byrd
