OBIT-Robert H. "Tex" McClain, 83, b:TEX
WEST YARMOUTH — Robert H. "Tex" McClain Jr., 83, of Boston and West Yarmouth, died Monday, April 19, 2010, after a long illness.
Born in Texas, he moved from Boston to West Yarmouth in 1997. He was educated at Southern Methodist University and the University of Denver. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. McClain had decades of service to Massachusetts legislative commissions on taxation, fiscal affairs, and the State Constitution and Reorganization of State Government with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1950—1990, retiring as Undersecretary of Administration and Finance. He advised the governors and House and Senate leaders.
He was past president of the American Society for Public Administration and a member of the National Academy of Public Administration. He was an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University Graduate School where he taught in the public administration program.
His avocation was genealogy and he traced his antecedents through fourteen generations.
He is survived by his friend, Joseph Forte; a brother, Richard and his wife Ruth; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 23.
