Betty A. (Goodson) McClain Obit
MANITOU BEACH — Betty A. McClain, age 75, of Manitou Beach passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1932, in Rollin Township, Lenawee County, Mich., to Otto D. and Ada A. (Bullis) Goodson. She married Charles S. McClain on Sept. 25, 1954 in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death on April 14, 1999.
Betty lived all her life in the Manitou Beach area. She attended the Geneva and Addison Schools. She was a homemaker, and along with her mother operated a garbage route for many years. She attended the Addison Senior Citizens Center. Betty enjoyed gardening and bird and turkey watching; she enjoyed the outdoors. Betty loved visiting with family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters, Althea Rosa McClain of Manitou Beach, Stacy (Delbert) Thorben of Addison, Serena (Patrick) McLaughlin of Weston; one son, Troy (Barbara Jean) McClain of Manitou Beach; and five grandchildren, Brooke (Chris) Rumpf of Adrian, Joseph, Charles and Patrick Thorben of Addison, Erin McLaughlin of Weston; one brother, Arthur R. (Florence-Jean) Goodson of Manitou Beach; and three sisters, Edna (Glen) Rose of Lake Columbia, Ella (Leonard) Butts of Clayton, and Stella (Tim) Fitzpatric of Rollin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; one son, Phillip Dean McClain; brothers, Howard, Henry and Earl; and sisters, Sylvia and Annabelle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Burial will be made in Green’s Lakeside Cemetery, Manitou Beach. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
