Dave--
Saw your message. This may or may not help.
I have come across a James McCausland of Centreville, Malahide Twp.,Elgin Co., Ontario apparently from Tyrone,Ireland.
Local history says that he emigrated ~1820 and settled on Lot 15 N., Conc.4,Malahide Twp.,Elgin Co.,Ontario.
James McCausland had sons Wesley and Andrew and daughter Mary Anne(perhaps more children).
Wesley was a deputy reeve and superintendent of schools at Centreville.
Andrew b.1806 died age 22 yrs in 1828.He owned three lots in Conc.4.His son,John McCausland, b.1820;d.1911 at St.Thomas, inherited the family farm and married Eliza Wrong of Vienna,Bayham Twp.,Ontario.
James McCausland's daughter Mary Anne McCausland b ~1833was married ~1859 to Daniel Gunn.(He was married first Jan.7,1836 to Mary Ann Balcomb of Malihide Twp.)
Daniel Gunn was the youngest of twelve children born to Alexander Gunn of Caithness,Scotland and Mehitable. The Gunns lived first in Nova Scotia and later moved to Lot 24,Conc 4 Yarmouth Twp.,Elgin Co.,Ontario.(near Village of Sparta,Ontario).
Daniel Gunn bought a farm at Centreville. He later sold this and ran a hotel at Jamestown,Yarmouth Twp.In 1871 he moved his family to Sparta,Yarmouth Twp.He and his wife died there.
Children:Dora,Alice Eugenia(married Hiram B.Smith Jr.),twins Lizzie(Mundle)and Ettie(Yarwood),Josephine and Wesley.
Centreville in Malihide Twp.,Elgin County is now named Luton.
Could your James McCausland be descended from this James McCausland?
None of this information has been verifed.Have not examined land records or census.
