The following is something I posted to the RootsWeb MCCAUSLAND-L list sometime ago - it includes where to purchase the book (an a short review of the book).
This should probably have the subject McCasland, McCaslin, McCausland, McCauslin, McCashland, M.Cashlan, Macaselin, MacAshland, McAsland, McAslin, McAuslan, McAusland, McAuslin, McCachin, McCarsland, McCarstland, McCash, McCashin, McCashing, McCashlan, McCashlen, McCashlin and at least 20-30 more alternate spellings.
Yes - these are all alternate spellings of McCausland found by Thesta Kennedy Scogland and documented in her book "Genealogy of McCasland ...". I received my copy the other day and have been doing a bit of reading.
Thesta attributes all these McCausland spellings from the first known MacAuslane from Scotland. She has tried to cover all these families in the US (no real attempt to trace them thru Scotland and Ireland). The book is a professionally bound volume, at least 3 inches thick, and a compilation of all the data she was able to collect on the families in the US.
(1) Detailed lists of some 27 families. Interestingly - while she cites The Berze (Sp) Marvin book - she does not trace my direct line in her book.
(2) She attributes the CSA General John McCausland family to "Robert McCausland, son of the elder son of Baron McAusland, lived in Fruithill, County Londenderry, Ireland. He died in 1743 possessed of land in Cappagh parish in Tyrone County." If I have my references right - this would tie Robert as the father of Alexander -> John -> the general.
(3) Lists of the census records for most of the above. (But she missed several for my relatives).
(4) Lists of early marriages.
All in all a very interesting book that I can recommend for any serious McCausland researcher (even though it might not have exactly what you need). The price was $ 30 from:
