Folks Rubh’ an Dùnain is a place of special interest to MacAskills everywhere. This historic peninsula at the foothills of the Cuillin on the Isle of Skye was for centuries the heart of the clan’s homeland, a stronghold in both military and sentimental terms. It is inhabited today by sheep, oystercatcher, plover and the ghosts of centuries; a place of immense beauty and tranquillity, rich in archaeology, flora and fauna, and of growing historical interest. The recently-formed MacAskills of Rubh’ an Dùnain Society has been created by descendants to promote interest in the area, to foster links with other MacAskills [whatever the spelling] and actively to conserve and develop places of relevant interest. We have been fortunate to secure a small site close to the shore in Glen Brittle on Skye courtesy of the late MacLeod clan chief, John MacLeod, and the local farmer Hugh Macrae. Plans are now under way to create a small public information point for Rubh’ an Dùnain. We hope it will be completed during 2009. In tandem we will be extending and enhancing our current temporary website to act as a complementary multimedia information resource. We are keen to gather information about MacAskills from this part of Skye, especially if they have information about the settlement at Tuisdale in Eynort, reportedly once known as the "Capital of Skye". You can find out more about the Society and its aims at our website: http://www.macaskillsociety.org Kind regards Alasdair MacAskill Vice-chairman Drynoch, Isle of Skye Notify Administrator about this message?
