I just found these notes that my grandmother wrote about 1952 at my moms house when I helped her move. Its a little hard to follow but here goes. My great Grandfather McCary- Doctor In civil war - He came from Mobile and landed in Galveston. He took an army of about 25 people and took to San Jacinto Battle grounds. Fought in Mexican War -He metmy Great grandmother. He had brothers. He was a doctor. He had a sawmill close to Houston. Grandmother had 2 farms. Iola - post-oak county94 years old4ft something ht.200 acres in Movile and to your heirs by the U S GovtNever was sold.Uncle Dudly received a letter from Atty in Movile. He gives him 25 acres of land and gets it strightened up- 175 acres He pd taxesBack about 35- Morgans took this land from Uncle Dudly. He got sick and they took it. In 35- was still in McCarys name but someone had tampered with it on file and tried to erase it. Write land dept Washigton D C -Worked in court house-Mobile. Grandmother Baker lived in old log house- parched corn for coffee. Indians were bad. Men would put fires of post around house Iola-Grimes County.Grandmother McCary was a Baker. She had Mollie McCary Kentucky. Her Mother was a Burleson. she had 1 girl1boy he married twice and went to Calif in GoldRush Never knew what happened. Mollie Baker McCary married Grandfather McCary- She always called him Captain. children John Brown McCary,Lindsey,Scatel, Dick, Maude(she married Wilcox), Dudly. Aunt Maude's children: Emma Wilcox she had 1 girl a nurse in army Beauty Operator, Maggie J Lunsford - Houston had boy and girl. Norma and 1 more. Mae- McCary She marries but divorsed him. 2918 Lee Ward, Los Angles Calif. Uncle Lindsey- 1-girl (Photographer-1 crazy)Boys moved San Antonio,Bre??? lives near parkSanAntonio married Spanish girl. McCary finished an A&M. Calvin Cooladge McCary.
Is this nuts or what? BUT I may be real glad I found it, from the looks of the McCary clan. My grandmother was Willie Mae McCary,married Melville Thomas Paine and is the daughter of John Brown McCary and Betty Doyle, who died in child birth.
