From grueling research over the past several years on the search of Augustine I belive he IS NOT the son of Nathaniel McCarty, Sr. and Rachel McDonald that died in Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1814. There are several circuit court documents in Pendleton County that refer to Augustine and Elizabeth as being infants at the time of their father's death, and they are living with David Kennedy in Nicholas County, KY in 1822 and David signed for them as next friend because they still were infants. Nancy was also listed with her guardian William McCord. I believe these three are the children of Rachel. Rachel was cared for by Dr. Alexander Monroe from 21 Dec 1813 to the last time he saw her on 1 Jan 1814. I am wondering if this Augustine is the one that appears in Brown Co., OH in 1860 census.
I have been comparing notes for the pioneer book in Pendleton County and I am afraid I do not see the connection to Nathaniel at this time. Samuel McCarty, the grandson of William "Big Bill" McCarty, b. 1810 in Bath Co., says his great grandfather lived and died in PA. Samuel is the great grandfather of my husband and almost everything he said in the E.E. Barton papers can be proven to be very accurate.
I think we need to take a closer look at the Adam McCarty, brother of Nathaniel. Does anyone have anything on him?
Thanks
Lisa
