Hi Ned,
There are no Darbys that I remember running across in James McCarty's descendants through his sons, Thomas, and Cornelius, and daughters Nancy, and Elizabeth. No Dennis, Daniel, and Thaddeus, either. That alone tells me that we are not in the "wealthy VA. McCarty line. But of course DNA reveals the same thing. You should get your DNA tested by Family Tree DNA or any other group. The cost is pretty reasonable now, ca. 90 dollars. There are a number of colonial McCartys in the study. You just might be a match for one of them, or more than one. All they do is have you swab the inside of your cheek with a little brush that removes some loose skin cells from the inside of your mouth. There about 100 participants now many from colonial VA and the Carolinas. You can look at their website at the McCarthy DNA Study on-line. Cheers Russ McCarty
