James McCarty, Thomas & Cornelius, colonial VA
Sorry to change direction, but surely the list is able to handle the thread of more than one family of McCartys at a time. The story of Colonial Virginia's James McCarty, wife Nancy Bosley,& children Thomas, Cornelius, Nancy and Betsey, who lived in Prince William & Fairfax Co, VA in late 1700s before moving to KY is still unfinished, especially James' parentage and connection to other McCartys in the area. As one of the original members of the McCarthy/McCarty DNA study, I know we are not related to the prominent Daniel, Denis, Thaddeus family of Northern Neck, Va (much to the regret of some members of James and Nancy's progeny), however, there is evidence that we are related to Cornelius who died in 1755, and William who died in 1743. William died fairly young and left orphans behind, one of whom was probably James McCarty. Both William and James have close geographic and social ties with nearby families such as Glasscock, Hardwick, Orear who also have real estate interactions with the older Cornelius (d.1755). There is a mountain of circumstantial evidence linking Cornelius d.1755 with James McCarty, father of Thomas and his brother Cornelius. A good case can be made for linking this older Cornelius with James McCarty and sons Thomas and Cornelius(the younger).
