Hi, Christina!
Good Gravy! What a surprise to see a posting from you on the genforum.I have researched the McCarters (my mother was one) for about eight years now.And I did not know whatever became of William McCarter, son of Jeremiah M. McCarter & Nancy Jane Chambers. After Jeremiah's death, some of his children sold off some of his land.I knew that his son William had married a second time to a Julie, but that is all I knew.
Here is your McCarter line...
Moses McCarter, Sr. and Catren _________ had a son named William McCarter.Moses, Sr. passed away what was then Abbeville County, South Carolina. The area is now a part of McCormick County, South Carolina.I do not know what became of Moses, Sr.'s son William.
William McCarter (son of Moses, Sr.) and wife _____ had sons James McCarter (married Rebecca Ogle), JOSEPHMCCARTER, The ELDER, Abel/Abraham/Abram McCarter, married twice, also of Jefferson County, TN and William McCarter - first Jefferson County, TN and then Rhea County, TN where he died.
JOSEPH MCCARTER, THE ELDER (1780 - 1864), son of William McCarter, came from Edgefield County, South Carolina to Jefferson County, TN during the early 1800s.He and first wife _____ had two known children.Their names were:Jeremiah M. McCarter (3/3/1817 - 1/19/1875) and Nancy McCarter (10/12/1818 - 3/2/1899).Joseph McCarter, the Elder is buried in the Proffitt Cemetery in Sevier County, TN.It is located next to the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
JEREMIAH M. MCCARTER, son of Joseph McCarter, the Elder, married Nancy Jane Chambers in Jefferson County, TN on 9/18/1839.Bondsman for the marriage was James A. Birdet (various spellings).
A year before Jeremiah's marriage, his sister Nancy married James A. Birdet in Monroe County, TN on 10/10/1838.Their wedding ceremony was officiated by Athael/Athiel McAllister.
Jeremiah and Nancy had several children, one was a son named William McCarter.William first married Lusinda (various spellings) Quarles in December of 1871 in Sevier County, TN.Their wedding ceremony was officiated by the Rev. John Biggerstaff Walker, Sr.
Lusinda Quarles was born on 2/18/1949.She was the daughter of William Conway (?) Quarles and first wife _____.Lusinda and William were only married for 11 years.Lusinda Quarles McCarter passed away on 8/3/1882.She is buried near her in-laws Jeremiah M. McCarter and Nancy Jane Chambers in the Rector Cemetery in Gatlinburg, Sevier County, TN.The cemetery is located in the National Park.
Who was the Rev. John Biggerstaff Walker, Sr.?He had married Catherine Birdet, daughter of James A. Birdet and Nancy McCarter.James A. Birdet's grave is located just a few graves from Joseph McCarter, the Elder's grave in the Proffitt Cemetery.
Then from what you posted - after Lucinda's death, William McCarter married Julia Farar.
Then from what you posted - William Andrew McCarter was the son of William McCarter and Julia Farar.
Then from what you posted - William Andrew McCarter married Lillie Mae Huskey.
Then from what you posted - William Andrew McCarter and Lillie Mae Huskey had a son named Carroll Lee McCarter (1938 - 1985).Now is that right?
In regarding, the name Walker - it is my married name.
However, you mentioned James S. (Jap) Walker. Is he any relation to James T. Walker, son of the Rev. John Biggerstaff Walker, Sr. and Catherine Birdet?
James T. Walker married Perinell E. "Ellen" Quarles. She was the daughter of William Conway (?) Quarles and SECOND WIFE Mary Adeline McCarter, daughter of Abel/Abraham/Abram
McCarter of Jefferson County, TN.
Regarding the Hollingsworth name - That was Jeremiah McCarter who married Nancy Hollingsworth in Knox County, TN on 6/23/1839.Bondsman for the marriage was a John Lawson. That is a TOTALLY DIFFERETNT couple who settled in Blount County, TN.
Hope the info helps. Please let me know.
Thank you,
Anna Walker
