Are you just starting in genealogy? If you are, you need to start with yourself, then your parents, then your grandparents, etc. Since your grandmother died in 1984, you should be able to get a copy of her death certificate and that should tell you who her parents were and where they were born. If there are still any older members of the family, you need to talk to them and see what they can tell you. Perhaps your mother could help you also, as she may have heard something while she was growing up. Hope that this helps you some.
