Hello, Jessica; No. My husband is a Walker. When I was on the web site looking at the photos I thought I would go ahead and look at the McCarters. If Waunita married a Marler after Brown's death in 1973 or 1976; if they married in Potter County, TX; a copy of their marriage license should be on file at the records department at the Potter County courthouse. I do not when Marler died, but Waunita died in 1993. You could ask for marriages in Potter County from 1973 to 1993. You mentioned in your first posting that a second cousin was helping you and perhaps they might have info on the McCarter-Brown and Marler marriage. Did you attend Waunita's funeral in 1993? If so, then you probably know the name of the funeral home, etc. Do you know who Waunita's parents were? From reading your very first posting, I assume that you may not know. Do you know? If not, the cemetery that you visited, is it in Amarillo, Texas? Is it a public cemetery or a church cemetery? If it's a public cemetery and if a member of the staff is on duty while you are visiting, sometimes, they should have a record on hand stating which funeral home handled Waunita's burial arrangements. In some instances, they also have records listing who her parents were. It just depends if the public cemetery is set up to provide a great deal of information. If the public cemetery is set up in that fashion, you can call the business office and tell them you are wanting to know if they have any information on the parents of Waunita Elcie McCarter Brown Marler. If they do not have that kind of information, they can probably give you the name of the funeral home that handled Waunita's burial arrangements. Once you know the name of the funeral home, you can call(but you have to state your relation to the deceased) and ask them for the names of Waunita's parents. Many times, not only do they have information on Waunita's parents but also grandparents, brothers and sisters. It is always better to go in person, so that, you can write down and document the information yourself. If you do not want to fool with all that, you can go to your public library - if it has a genealogy department - many funeral homes put together books on the records of the deceased whose family used their funeral home. Most public libraries will purchase these books for their genealogy departments. Sometimes the books are donated. Have your McCarters lived in Potter County, TX the last 100 years or so? Have they only been there for less than 50 years? What is the name of the cemetery? Is it located in Potter County, TX in Amarillo? You mentioned the many McCarters that are buried in the cemetery. Are there some McCarter graves listed with dates of birth dating back before 1900? As far as you know, are the majority of these McCarters related to you? You may have already accumulated a lot of date recently, and these suggestions may not be a help to you. But you mentioned the young girl, and if you are starting from scratch with her family, then they might help. If you have not by chance contacted Tiffany McCarter, she has several postings on this genforum, and her family is from Navarro and I believe Rust counties, Texas. She has a huge McCarter web site and she might be able to help. Sorry if I overloaded you, but I hope this might help your research. Thank you, Anna Walker Notify Administrator about this message?
