The Joseph McCarter the Elder of Jefferson County, TN, who is buried in the Proffitt Cemetery in Sevier County, TN - Joseph had a son named Moses McCarter (Born: 1813). Moses married Sarah Ketchum in Monroe, Indiana in 1834. I don't know if that would be Monroe, Adams County, Indiana; or Monroe County, Indiana which is located below Morgan County, Indiana when you look at a map of the counties of Indiana.
It is known that Moses and Sarah were living in Daviess County, Indiana before 1840, since their son Daniel McCarter was born there in 1840. Daviess County is located not far from Monroe County.
I do not know if this helps are not.
History of the Daviess County, Indiana McCarters comes from the book entitled History of Daviess County, Indiana, published by Goodspeed Publishing in 1886.
