Hi! The name could be M'Carter. In some census records, the family name McCarter is written M'Carter. I will look at the marriage bond and see who the bondsman and witness were. I have seen the marriage in book form. Did you see my other postings regarding Jeremiah McCarter of KNOX County, TN on this genforum. I mentioned two Brimer women who married McCarter males in JEFFERSON County, TN during the early 1800s. These Brimer women's parents were Jesse and Eleanor RENEAU (RENO) Brimer. Joseph McCarter (1780 - 1864)the Elder of JEFFERSON County, TN - he is listed in the 1860 Tennessee Census of Jefferson County as Carter. He is buried in the Proffitt Cemetery in Sevier County, TN. Regarding the James McCarter you mentioned - there could be a very, very small possibility that your Polly was either the daughter of Jeremiah McCarter or Lamos JAMES McCarter of KNOX County, TN. I have no proof of this, but it does make me wonder - The Jeremiah McCarter of KNOX County, TN could possibly have had a son named Jeremiah McCarter who settled in BLOUNT County, TN. Jeremiah McCarter (Born in Tennessee) of BLOUNT County, TN had a son named Alfred McCarter. Alfred McCarter is found listed in the 1900 Tennessee Census of Blount County, TN. It is listed that Alfred's father Jeremiah was born in IRELAND. Though in all previous census records list Jeremiah place of birth as Tennessee. Now what I think happened was - that as the census taker was interviewing Alfred; Alfred may have gotten the two Jeremiah's mixed up (his grandfather and father) when the census taker asked - where was your father born? Alfred replied "he was born in IRELAND." He was probably talking about his GRANDFATHER. Ireland was put into the record. It is known that Jeremiah McCarter of BLOUNT County, TN - his wife Nancy Jane Hollingsworth and some of their children were residing in the household of a George Bond family in Knox County, TN in 1850 - according to the Knox County, TN census. A neighor of George Bond was a Robert Gray. There is a small possibility that the Bond and Gray families could have been related. George Bond and his wife Eliza are buried in the old Ebenezer (Presbyterian Church) Cemeterty located on Westland Dr. in Knoxville, Knox County, TN. Also buried at the cemetery is Robert Gray and his wife Anna. Robert's gravemarker list the following... Robert Gray Born in County of Antrim IRELAND 10/10/1797 4/29/1860 63 Years Thank you, Anna Walker Notify Administrator about this message?
