Hello!
On the Internet you can find an article entitled Identity of John Finley, (Daniel) Boone's Companion, by: Lee J. Bain

In the article it states that a John and George Finley were brothers, and sons of John Finley and Thankful Doak.

John Finley, father of John and George Finley, disposed of some land after removing to Knox County, TN in 1792.

It is thought that this John Finley, father of John and George Finley, was also the father of William Finley (1765 - 1818 - Jefferson County, TN)who married Jean Kennedy. William Finley and Jean Kennedy's daughter Polly Finley married Davy Crockett.

If I am interpreting this correctly the John Finley who removed to Knox County, TN in 1792 - His son John Finley married the Margaret Kerr which I listed in the previous posting. Witnesses were Jeremiah McCarter, John Finley and (his wife) Thankful Doak.

John Finley and Thankful Doak had a daughter named Thankful who married a McCarter.

I think, I got that right. Also when you look at the documents of the North Carolina Archives - the listing of men who resided on land (Indian) - a few of the men had the last name Witherspoon. Witherspoons and Doaks have family connections, I do believe.

Thanks
Anna Walker
